LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Clark County Coroner’s office has identified the third victim of the shooting that occurred at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Wednesday. The individual has been identified as Naoko Takemaru, a 69-year-old associate professor of Japanese Studies at UNLV.

According to Clark County officials, Dr. Takemaru was a highly respected educator who had received the William Morris Award for Excellence in Teaching from the College of Liberal Arts at UNLV. She was responsible for overseeing the entire Japanese Studies Program and taught upper-division courses on Japanese language, culture, and business.

The identities of two other victims were released by the coroner’s office on Thursday. The victims were identified as 64-year-old professor Cha Jan Chang, known as “Jerry,” and 39-year-old associate professor Patricia Navarro Velez. Chang was a professor of business at UNLV, while Navarro Velez worked as an assistant professor in accounting. Both victims were based in the university’s Beam Building (BEH).

Authorities have confirmed that the cause of death for all three victims was multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death has been classified as homicide.

The shooting incident has sent shockwaves through the UNLV community and beyond, as the loss of these esteemed educators has left a profound impact.
