UNLV Campus Shooting: Tragic Incident Claims Lives of Faculty Members

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) campus is in mourning after a horrifying shooting incident resulted in the deaths of three faculty members. The assailant, identified as 67-year-old Anthony Polito, a former college professor, specifically targeted the university following an unsuccessful job application.

Among the victims were Cha Jan Chang, 64, a seasoned educator with over twenty years of experience in management information systems, and Patricia Navarro Velez, 39, an assistant professor dedicated to shaping future accountants. The identity of the third victim is yet to be disclosed, pending notification of their next of kin. Polito’s online presence indicated an obsession with Vegas puzzles and conspiracy theories, even claiming to have solved the Zodiac Killer case on his personal website. Authorities discovered a document resembling a last will and testament at Polito’s residence in Henderson, Nevada, further adding to the perplexity of the case. The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, leaving a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the entire incident.

UNLV President Keith Whitfield described the event as the most challenging day in the university’s history and acknowledged the profound impact of the loss on the community. As the university grapples with this tragedy, all classes and activities have been suspended, and the campus is expected to remain closed for the remainder of the week.
