By | December 8, 2023

The gunman responsible for the shooting at the University of Nevada’s Las Vegas campus has been identified by police as 67-year-old Anthony Polito. According to law enforcement, Polito had a “target list” of individuals, but none of them became victims in the shooting. Police have contacted everyone on the list except for one person who is traveling internationally.

Prior to the attack, Polito sent 22 letters to various university personnel across the country with no return address. The first intercepted letter contained an unknown white powder, prompting authorities to urge anyone who received such mail to contact them.

It was revealed that Polito was a former college professor who had recently applied for a job at the University of Nevada but was not accepted. Authorities believe that his frustration over being rejected for several job opportunities at different colleges may have been the motive behind the shooting.

Three victims were killed in the incident, identified as professor Cha Jan Chang, 64, and assistant professor Patricia Navarro Velez, 39. Another faculty member was injured and remains hospitalized.

The shooting has left the University of Nevada community in shock and mourning. College President Keith Whitfield expressed his condolences and described the event as a tragedy. He thanked everyone for their cooperation during the shelter-in-place order and praised law enforcement for their courage in ensuring the safety of the campus.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and police are still trying to determine the exact motive behind Polito’s actions. They have confirmed that he acted alone and that there are no other suspects at this time.
