Tragedy Strikes as Pickup Truck Driver Kills Two in Boston Suburb
A pickup truck driver in the Boston suburb of Waltham is facing multiple charges after crashing into a police officer and a utility worker, resulting in their deaths. The driver, identified as Peter Simon, allegedly pulled a knife on another officer before stealing his cruiser and crashing it.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when Simon attempted to make a U-turn and ended up striking a vehicle. In an attempt to flee the scene, Simon continued driving and struck Waltham police Officer Paul Tracey and a National Grid worker named Roderick Jackson. Both victims tragically lost their lives. Two other utility workers were injured but have since been released from the hospital.
After crashing the stolen cruiser, Simon was arrested following a brief foot pursuit. He appeared in court on Thursday and was charged with manslaughter, armed robbery, assault, and leaving the scene of an accident. Simon has a criminal history dating back to 2009.
During the court appearance, prosecutors did not provide any motives for Simon’s actions, stating that his primary goal seemed to be fleeing the scene. Meanwhile, the Waltham community mourns the loss of Officer Tracey, a 28-year veteran of the police department known for his compassion and dedication to his work.
The utility worker, Roderick Jackson, had recently joined National Grid and was described as a helpful and valued colleague. His brother, Manuel Asprilla-Hassan, expressed devastation at the loss, highlighting Jackson’s impact on the Cambridge community.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Officer Tracey. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by those working in public service and the importance of ensuring their safety.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and Simon is scheduled to appear in court again on December 14th. The Waltham community and the families of the victims are left grappling with the shock and grief caused by this unimaginable tragedy.
