KANE COUNTY, IL — Tragedy struck a family in Kane County when a 63-year-old man lost his life after being accidentally hit by his own mother’s SUV in their driveway. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at a residence in the 11N200 block of Romeo Drive in Plato Township.
According to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the 85-year-old woman was repositioning her 2016 black Lincoln SUV in the driveway when she unintentionally pressed the accelerator. Tragically, her son, identified as Steven Ackmann from Hampshire, was walking in front of the vehicle and was struck by it. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter.

Authorities are uncertain about the speed at which the SUV was traveling when it hit Ackmann. Additionally, they are also investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. As of now, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
