Mother of 14-Year-Old Na’Qualo Smith Calls for Justice after He and 13-Year-Old Cousin Donta Gurley are Shot and Killed in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The mother of a 14-year-old boy who was shot and killed along with his 13-year-old cousin over the weekend is speaking out for the first time, demanding justice. Lashanna Smith is heartbroken after the tragic incident that claimed the lives of her son, Na’Qualo Smith, and his cousin, Donta Gurley.

Smith tearfully expressed, “That was my baby, he did nothing to nobody.”

The grieving mother last saw her son and Gurley when they went to bed on Saturday night. Little did she know that she would wake up to a nightmare. Smith’s daughter informed her that the boys hadn’t returned home. They had sneaked out without her knowledge.

Smith immediately reported them missing to the Little Rock Police Department. Shortly after, her sister delivered the devastating news. She told Smith that there had been a homicide on West 22nd Street, which was the last location detected by Na’Qualo’s iPhone.

On Sunday, the Little Rock Police Department confirmed that the two teenagers had been shot and killed on West 22nd Street. Smith emphasized that her son was not involved in any trouble and had no associations with the streets. She firmly believes that he did not deserve to die in such a violent manner.

As of now, no arrests have been made, according to the police department. Smith pleads for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and provide justice for her son and nephew.

Smith’s aunt, Paula Hall, revealed that the family is relying on each other for support but is devastated by Na’Qualo’s untimely death. They are struggling to comprehend how to move on from this tragedy.

Na’Qualo’s cousin, Shante Johnson, described him as a selfless individual who always put his siblings before himself.

“He thought about them before he thought about himself,” Johnson stated.

Despite his young age, Na’Qualo was known for his vibrant personality. His family hopes that justice will prevail soon.

Smith emphasizes the urgent need to end the violence in the city to prevent other families from enduring the same pain. She encourages anyone with information to contact the Little Rock Police Department.
