Denver Police Arrest Suspect in Deadly Shooting near Gaylord Street

Denver, CO – The Denver Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred near Gaylord Street last Thursday. According to a statement from the Denver Department of Public Safety, 38-year-old Travis Jamahl Jackson was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place at around 6:22 p.m. on November 30, when police responded to reports of a shooting in the 800 block of Gaylord Street. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, identified as 27-year-old Michael Milligan, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest. Milligan was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The case was subsequently upgraded to a homicide investigation.

An arrest affidavit released by the police revealed details about the events leading up to the shooting. According to the affidavit, a witness reported that he and Milligan were engaged in a marijuana deal with a crack cocaine dealer. The witness stated that they had arranged to meet the dealer near 9th Avenue and Vine Street.

During the meeting, an altercation broke out when the dealer and an accomplice confronted Milligan and the witness. The witness believed that the dealer was attempting to steal the marijuana, prompting him to slam the car door shut. As Milligan tried to drive away, gunshots were fired, and he was hit before crashing his vehicle into the 800 block of Gaylord Street.

Video surveillance from the area captured the shooting and showed the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene immediately afterward. Investigators were able to track the suspect’s phone, which led them to Jackson’s location. Further evidence, including a fired cartridge case and witness identification, resulted in his arrest.

Jackson is currently being held for investigation of first-degree murder. The Denver District Attorney’s Office will determine the formal charges to be filed. The investigation is still ongoing.

The shooting has left the community in shock, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
