Former Sierra Leone President, Ernest Bai Koroma, has been invited by the police for questioning in relation to a failed coup attempt that occurred last month. Gunmen attacked a military barracks, a prison, and several other locations, resulting in the release of approximately 2,200 inmates and the unfortunate deaths of numerous individuals.

The attack, which sent shockwaves throughout the country, took place on November 15th, when armed assailants launched a coordinated assault on multiple targets. The attackers managed to overpower security forces at the targeted locations, allowing them to free the prisoners and carry out their deadly mission.

In response to the incident, the Sierra Leone Police have been conducting an extensive investigation to identify those responsible for planning and executing the failed coup. As part of their ongoing efforts, they have now summoned former President Koroma to provide any information he may have regarding the attack.

Ernest Bai Koroma served as the President of Sierra Leone from 2007 to 2018 and is a prominent figure in the country’s political landscape. While there is currently no evidence linking him directly to the coup attempt, the police are keen to gather any insights that could aid their investigation.

The involvement of a former president in such a serious incident has stirred up controversy and speculation across the nation. Some citizens believe that the invitation to President Koroma is merely a routine procedure to seek his assistance, while others view it as an indication of potential involvement or knowledge of the plot.

Sierra Leone is no stranger to political instability, having experienced a brutal civil war in the 1990s. The country has since made significant progress in consolidating peace and strengthening its democratic institutions. However, this recent coup attempt has highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the nation in maintaining stability and security.

As the investigation unfolds, Sierra Leoneans anxiously await further developments and hope for justice to prevail. The outcome of this inquiry will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the country’s political future and the reputation of its former president..
