In a tragic incident on Friday, April 28, 2023, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding multiple shootings in the Trails End Subdivision. Upon arrival, authorities discovered five victims, four of whom had succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The fifth victim was rushed to the hospital but tragically passed away. The victims were identified as Sonia Argentina Guzman, Diana Velazquez Alvarado, Julisa Molina Rivera, Jose Jonathan Casarez, and Daniel Enrique Laso.
The investigation revealed that all ten individuals present in the house at the time of the incident were from Honduras. It was determined that the suspect responsible for the shootings was Francisco Oropeza, a Mexican National and neighbor of the victims. Oropeza had been firing his AR-15 in his front yard, prompting the victims to request him to stop due to the presence of an infant in their home. Oropeza complied initially but later resumed shooting, ultimately resulting in the tragic loss of life.

Law enforcement agencies, including the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, collaborated to apprehend the suspect. Despite the efforts of the SWAT team, Oropeza was not found at his residence. It is believed that he has fled the area.
The San Jacinto District Attorney’s Office has been diligently working on the case, gathering evidence from multiple agencies and preparing for the trial against Oropeza. First Assistant District Attorney Rob Freyer announced that they are seeking the death penalty for the suspect.
In a separate case, Robert Dale Clary appeared in court on Thursday in connection with the murder of Rhonda Richardson, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice Prison Guard. Richardson’s body was discovered in the Sam Houston National Forest in 2019, and Clary was one of the individuals who came across it. Suspicion arose when it was discovered that Richardson had been seen with Clary on his ATV shortly before her death. Evidence, including phone coordinates, linked Clary to the crime scene, leading to his arrest.
Furthermore, Thorn Keeper and his father, Daniel Keeper, were also present in court on Thursday. They are accused of the murder of Katelyn Michelle Brandon, whose body was found in Coldspring in December 2022. The victim had sustained multiple stab wounds.

These cases highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors to seek justice for the victims and their families. The legal process will continue as the defendants face the charges brought against them.
