A man, aged 35, was fatally shot and over 35 houses were set ablaze during a recent clash between rival clans in Griftu, Wajir. The violent confrontation, which occurred on Thursday, December 7, resulted in the displacement of numerous residents, according to the police. Additionally, seven individuals sustained injuries during the chaos and received medical treatment at local hospitals. The skirmish involved the Jibrair and Iris sub-clans of the Degodia clan, authorities confirmed.
The two groups, who reside in close proximity to each other, engaged in the conflict over a disputed piece of land. Police were called to the scene to intervene, but their efforts to contain the violence were unsuccessful. Eventually, the fighting ceased in Jahahir village, revealing the lifeless body of a man named Eymo Billow. Billow had been shot in the legs and back. Shockingly, the unrest also resulted in the destruction of 35 houses, leaving many families homeless.

Upon investigation, the police discovered 16 spent cartridges from an AK47 rifle and 10 from a G3 rifle, indicating the use of heavy weaponry during the confrontation. Billow’s body was transported to the morgue for an autopsy before being released to his family for burial rites. Meanwhile, the displaced residents are left grappling with the aftermath of the violence, as they face uncertainty and the daunting task of rebuilding their homes and lives.
