Two Men Charged with First-Degree Murder in Shooting that Left Three Dead in DC

Two men have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in a shooting in Northwest D.C. that resulted in the deaths of three individuals. Renza Bryant, 37, from Northwest, D.C., and Jalonte Thompkins, 34, from Northeast, D.C., were arrested in Fort Washington, Maryland after waiving their right to an extradition hearing. They have both been charged with first-degree murder while armed, according to DC Police.

The incident occurred on August 5th at 1:01 a.m., when officers responded to a shooting in the 2500 block of Ontario Road, Northwest. At the scene, they discovered three men who had been shot. Two of the victims, identified as James Morgan, 34, and Jamal Morgan, 30, both from Southeast D.C., were pronounced dead. The third victim, Vincent Martin, 42, also from Southeast D.C., was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries two days later on August 7th.

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) located and apprehended Bryant and Thompkins on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the murders. After waiving their right to an extradition hearing, they were transported to DC Police’s Homicide Branch, where they were formally charged with first-degree murder.

This incident adds to the growing concern over violent crime in the D.C. area. The recent meeting between Matthew Graves and top prosecutors with the DC Council focused on discussing the current system and its impact on the community.
