Three people were killed and another critically injured in a shooting incident at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The attack occurred at around 5:15 pm (IST) on Wednesday, with the suspected shooter later found dead. The cause of the suspect’s death has not yet been determined.
The university issued an alert to students and the community, urging them to “RUN-HIDE-FIGHT” in response to the emergency. The shooting took place at the Beam Hall, Frank and Estella Building, which houses UNLV’s Lee Business School.

Authorities confirmed that the campus, spanning 332 acres (135 hectares) and located less than 2 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip, was secure within 40 minutes of the attack. The exact number of students present on campus at the time is still unknown.
As a result of the incident, classes at the university were canceled, and a scheduled basketball game against the University of Dayton, Ohio, was also called off.
Las Vegas, known for its entertainment and gambling attractions, attracts millions of visitors each year. However, the city has been marred by past incidents of gun violence, including the infamous 2017 mass shooting at a music festival that claimed the lives of 60 people.
Mass shootings have unfortunately become alarmingly common in the United States, a country with more firearms than people. This year alone, over 600 incidents of mass shootings have been recorded, defined as incidents where four or more individuals are either killed or injured.
