Three People Killed, Including Unidentified Gunman, in Campus Shooting at University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Three people were killed and another injured in a campus shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Wednesday. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed that the suspected gunman, who has not yet been identified, was also killed during the incident. Authorities do not yet know the motive for the attack.

During a press conference following the shooting, Sheriff Kevin McMahill reassured the community that there was “no further threat” and that the surviving gunshot victim was in stable condition. Several other people suffered panic attacks during the chaos. Some officers sustained minor injuries during the search for additional victims or suspects.

The campus shooting has led to the closure of college campuses in southern Nevada on Thursday and Friday. This incident marks the 80th school shooting in the United States this year, with 51 shootings reported on K-12 campuses and 29 on university and college campuses, according to CNN.

Law enforcement officials have revealed that the suspected shooter was a 67-year-old career college professor who had previously sought employment at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The suspect had connections to colleges in Georgia and North Carolina but his affiliation with the UNLV is still unknown.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman expressed condolences on behalf of the city and called for action to address the issue of violence. Investigation into the shooting will continue throughout the night, and further information regarding the motive behind the attack will be shared with the public at a later time.

The incident at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has shaken the community and raised concerns about safety on college campuses. Students and faculty are left grappling with fear and uncertainty as they decide whether to return to campus in the coming days.
