A man who was shot and injured by police in Montebello in October was wanted for attempting to kill a key witness in a murder case involving another member of his gang, according to court documents obtained by the Southern California News Group. The incident took place on October 31 at a Chevron gas station in Long Beach. In a video released by the police in November, the moments leading up to the shooting were captured, showing the suspect, Oscar Alejandro Ramires, 33, of Montebello, attempting to drive away after being surrounded by police. Ramires rammed into several civilian and police vehicles at the gas station before a detective fired at him, hitting him once in the upper body.

After the shooting, Ramires fled and hit another car on Via Altamira. He was eventually found by officers on the ground in a garage near his home. Apart from identifying Ramires as a suspect in an attempted murder case, the police did not provide any further details about the incident. However, according to court documents, Ramires was believed to have targeted a woman who was going to testify against a gang member in a preliminary hearing. In September, Ramires and another woman showed up at the woman’s home and he fired four shots, hitting her in the leg.

The woman had initially been arrested in connection with a 2022 homicide, but the charges were dropped after she provided a statement against one of her co-defendants. Police believe that Ramires and his gang targeted her to prevent her from testifying. Social media posts, recorded jail calls, and prison calls all indicated that the gang was seeking violence against her. Ramires was also suspected of being involved in two car-to-car shootings in October.

Ramires has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, dissuading a witness by force or fear, assault on a peace officer, and four counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held in jail with a bail set at over $2 million.
