Double Homicide in South Austin: Emmanuel Pop Ba and Sabrina Rahman Shot and Killed in Tragic Incident

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The sound of sobbing filled the air outside a home in south Austin where two individuals were tragically shot and killed on Tuesday. Family members of the victims gathered together just 24 hours after the fatal incident to pray and find solace.

According to the Austin Police Department, a man and a woman were fatally shot outside a residence on Shadywood Drive. The victims have been identified as Emmanuel Pop Ba, 32, and Sabrina Rahman, 24.

The police have named Shane James, 34, as the suspect in this double homicide, as well as another shooting incident involving an officer from the Austin Independent School District and an officer from the Austin Police Department.

The grieving family members of Ba visited the site where their loved one was murdered. They held each other close, offering prayers and shedding tears, while a bouquet of orange flowers stood as a memorial on the sidewalk.

Mario Gabriel Cas, Ba’s brother, spoke about the devastating loss, describing Ba as a hardworking individual who never took a day off. He shared that Ba would have celebrated his 33rd birthday later this month, had his life not been abruptly cut short.

Meanwhile, relatives of Rahman were seen going in and out of the home, occasionally bringing out personal belongings and quietly sitting by the memorial of candles and flowers.

Karen Koske, a long-time neighbor who has lived in the area for over 20 years, expressed her concerns about the safety of the neighborhood. She mentioned that Rahman had recently moved into the home and that neighbors reported the male victim being shot first, with Rahman rushing to his aid before being struck herself.

Koske hopes that tragedies like this can be prevented in the future and that the families left behind can find closure. She acknowledged the lingering fear and sadness within the community, stating, “It’s just sad.”
