Anthony Polito, the suspected perpetrator of a deadly mass shooting at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), has been identified as a professor who had previously applied unsuccessfully for a position at the university. The 67-year-old, armed with a handgun, initiated the shooting on the fourth floor of Beam Hall, UNLV’s business school, resulting in three fatalities. Police engaged in a shootout with Polito, ultimately leading to his death.

Polito, describing himself as a “Semi-Retired University Professor” in Las Vegas, had educational credentials from Radford University, Duke University, and the University of Georgia. “The greatest gifts and takeaways I possess from my many years within higher education are the many kind & positive comments students made regarding my instruction disposition toward them,” his LinkedIn account reads.
