Homicide Investigation Launched After Missing Man Found Dead in Western Bay of Plenty
A homicide investigation has been launched after the body of missing man Harley Shrimpton was found at a home in the Western Bay of Plenty on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Tauranga man had been missing since November 3 and was officially reported missing on November 17.

Shrimpton was last seen on November 3 in the car park of McDonald’s Mt Maunganui, getting into a blue Toyota Prius that had been stolen from the suburb of Bellevue the day before. The stolen vehicle has since been recovered by the police.
A 21-year-old man appeared in the Tauranga District Court yesterday, charged with the kidnapping of Shrimpton, according to Detective Inspector Lindsay Pilbrow. The accused is scheduled to appear in court again later this month.
Shrimpton’s body was discovered after an extensive search of several homes in the Western Bay of Plenty over the past two weeks. The body was found at an address on Poripori Rd and has been confirmed as Shrimpton by authorities.
The news of Shrimpton’s death is devastating for his family, who had been hoping for his safe return since his disappearance. The police are providing support to the family during this incredibly difficult time.

In addition to the homicide investigation, the police are appealing for any sightings of the blue Toyota Prius. They are particularly interested in any information regarding the vehicle’s presence in the Tauriko, Omanawa, or Poripori Rd areas on November 3, from early afternoon onwards.
Detective Inspector Pilbrow urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward and assist the police in their investigation. The authorities are determined to bring justice to Shrimpton and his grieving family.
