Anthony Polito Identified as Suspect in University of Nevada, Las Vegas Shooting that Left Three Dead

The suspect in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) shooting that left three people dead has been identified as Anthony Polito, a 67-year-old college professor. Polito was killed by officers following reports of shots fired on the campus on Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement sources have confirmed Polito’s identity to ABC News and have released a photo of him as the investigation into the shooting continues. It is believed that Polito had recently been denied a job at the school and had previously worked as a professor in North Carolina and Georgia.

Investigators have obtained Polito’s phone and have searched his residence in Henderson, Nevada, in an attempt to find clues about a possible motive. They are also examining his professional work to see if it can provide any insight into the attack.

During a press conference, Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed that three people were killed in the shooting, although their identities have not been released. Sources have indicated that the victims were members of the faculty or staff and not students, suggesting that the shooting may have been targeted.

McMahill praised the swift response of the officers, stating that their actions undoubtedly saved lives. Police responded to the campus after shots were fired and began evacuating students one building at a time. UNLV sent out a text message to students instructing them to “Run, Hide, Fight.”

The shooting took place in Beam Hall, a building that houses UNLV’s Lee Business School and the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. The university is located just 15 minutes away from Mandalay Bay Resort Casino, where the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history occurred in 2017.

A reunification center has been set up at the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall for evacuated students, and a hotline has been established for anyone searching for loved ones.

As the investigation into the UNLV shooting continues, authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack and gather any additional information that may help shed light on the incident.
