According to a report by ABC News, the gunman responsible for the shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) campus has been identified as 67-year-old career college professor Anthony Polito. Polito opened fire on the campus, killing three people and critically injuring another before being fatally shot by responding officers.
Multiple law enforcement sources confirmed that Polito was the shooter who was killed by the officers. It was also revealed that Polito had applied for a professor position at UNLV but was not hired.

The incident took place near Beam Hall, close to UNLV’s Lee Business School. Officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the UNLV campus police responded to reports of an active shooter at around 11:45 a.m. on December 6. UNLV campus detectives encountered Polito outside Beam Hall and engaged in a shootout that resulted in his death.
The identities of the victims killed in the shooting have not been disclosed, but it has been confirmed that they were not students. The three deceased victims were faculty and staff members. However, a critically injured student is reported to be in stable condition.
Polito was previously an associate professor at East Carolina University, according to his LinkedIn profile. He had a Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University, an MBA from Duke University, and a PhD from the University of Georgia.
The motive behind Polito’s attack on the UNLV campus remains unknown, and police have yet to disclose any information regarding it. This incident has shaken the citizens of Las Vegas, who are still recovering from the mass shooting in 2017 that left 60 people dead.
