Dakota City, Nebraska – One person has died following a series of crashes on Wednesday morning on Interstate 129 in northeast Nebraska. The initial accident occurred at approximately 5 a.m., with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office responding to the scene.

According to authorities, the collision took place in the eastbound lanes and involved a 2008 Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen from South Sioux City, Nebraska. The Camry was traveling eastbound on I-129 when it collided with the center median barricade.

After the crash, two good Samaritans stopped to assist the driver of the stolen Camry. Tragically, while rendering aid, a second vehicle traveling eastbound struck both the crashed Camry and the two good Samaritans. The second vehicle then went on to hit a third car that was parked on the shoulder of the interstate.

Regrettably, one of the good Samaritans, a 66-year-old resident of South Sioux City, lost their life as a result of the collision. The other good Samaritan and the driver of the second vehicle sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the stolen Camry fled the scene, and authorities are currently searching for the individual. The sheriff’s office has not provided a physical description of the driver, only specifying that it is a male.

In addition to the eastbound crash, there was a separate collision on the westbound lanes of I-129 shortly after the initial incident. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported in the westbound crash.
