2015 Udhampur Terror Attack: Lashkar-e-Taiba Operatives’ Properties Attached by NIA

New Delhi, 7th December 2023: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken action by attaching the properties of two important members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist organization. The move comes as a result of their involvement in a 2015 terror attack on a BSF convoy in Udhampur district, Jammu & Kashmir.

The attack, which occurred on 5th August 2015, resulted in the deaths of two BSF personnel and injuries to 13 others. It took place on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway near Narsoo ‘nallah’ in the village of Narsoo. The security forces were able to neutralize one terrorist, while another, identified as Naveed, was arrested.

The two individuals whose properties have been attached, Fayaz Ahmed Itoo and Khursheed Ahmed Bhat, were also subsequently apprehended and are currently facing trial in the NIA Special Court in Jammu. The NIA has found evidence linking them to the banned LeT terror organization, which is backed by Pakistan.

All the main suspects in the case have been charged and are currently on trial under various laws, including the Ranbir Penal Code, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act 1946, Passport (Entry into India Act 1920), and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967.

In this particular case, four properties have been attached. Fayaz Ahmed Itoo’s single-story residential house in Khudwani village, Kulgam district, and Khursheed Ahmed Bhat’s double-story residential house along with two plots of land in Chursoo and Sail, Awantipora, Pulwama district, have been seized under Section 33 (1) of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967. These actions follow recent orders from the NIA Special Court in Jammu.

The NIA’s move to attach these properties is a significant step in the fight against terrorism and sends a strong message that those involved in such heinous acts will face the full force of the law.
