Suspect Arrested in Chowchilla Shooting That Resulted in the Killing of Jose Rodriguez

CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that led to the death of a man in Chowchilla, according to the local police department. The victim has been identified as Jose Rodriguez, a 25-year-old resident of Chowchilla.

The incident occurred on November 28 when authorities received a report of a shooting at Ninth Street and Riverside Avenue at around 3 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Rodriguez and a woman with gunshot wounds in front of a house.

Both victims were immediately taken to the hospital, but Rodriguez unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The woman, who is believed to be Rodriguez’s wife, is currently receiving medical treatment.

To aid in their investigation, Chowchilla police collaborated with the Madera County Sheriff’s Office to execute search warrants on the night of the homicide. This led to the identification of the suspect, 20-year-old Nathan Gonzales.

In an effort to apprehend Gonzales, officers conducted surveillance on multiple locations in Chowchilla and Madera, eventually confirming that he had entered a vehicle. On Tuesday, with the assistance of the Madera Police Department, Chowchilla investigators were able to stop the vehicle and arrest Gonzales without incident.

Gonzales has been taken into custody and is now being held at Madera County Jail. He is facing charges of homicide in relation to the death of Rodriguez, as well as attempted homicide of Rodriguez’s wife.

The Chowchilla Police Department expressed their gratitude to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office and the Madera Police Department for their assistance in the arrest.
