Sri Lankan Man Stabbed to Death in South Korea

A Sri Lankan man working in South Korea has tragically lost his life after being stabbed by another Sri Lankan. The incident occurred on Sunday morning, December 3rd, and the victim has been identified as a 29-year-old resident of Pamunugama.

According to media reports, the victim had recently returned to Sri Lanka from Japan to take care of his ill father. However, in August of this year, he had traveled to South Korea to work as a Welder. He resided in a shared house in the Mokpo area with two others.

The victim’s wife revealed that her husband had frequently complained about one particular individual who would often pick fights after consuming alcohol. She had informed the employment agent about the issue, and her husband had also mentioned it during their last phone conversation.

Tragically, on the night of the incident, the victim was asleep in his room when he was fatally stabbed in the chest by the other Sri Lankan. The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has been notified of the incident and has informed the victim’s family. The South Korean authorities have confirmed that the suspect is in police custody.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by migrant workers in foreign countries, including issues relating to shared accommodation and alcohol-fueled altercations. The SLBFE plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights and well-being of Sri Lankan workers abroad, and it is hoped that measures will be taken to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
