Six Dead, Multiple Injured in Texas Shooting Spree, Suspect Identified as Shane James

Travis County authorities have identified the man suspected of carrying out a shooting spree in Texas that left six people dead and several injured. Shane James, 34, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder of multiple persons. He is currently being held without bond at the Travis County Jail. The motive behind the attacks and the relationship between the victims and the suspect remain unknown.

The violent incidents began on Tuesday morning when James allegedly shot an Austin Independent School District police officer outside Northeast Early College High School. The officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg but is expected to recover fully. Shortly after, police responded to reports of shots fired in the 7300 block of Shadywood Drive, where they discovered the bodies of a man and a woman. The victims have not been identified.

Further incidents occurred throughout the day, including the shooting of a cyclist on West Slaughter Lane. The cyclist’s injuries were not life-threatening. Later, a burglary was reported on Austral Loop, where authorities found James in the backyard. He opened fire on an officer, striking him multiple times. The officer returned fire, but James managed to escape in a vehicle. After a pursuit, James was apprehended following a crash at the intersection of South Highway 45 and FM 1826.

Inside the home on Austral Loop, two more individuals were found dead. They have not been identified, and their cause of death is yet to be determined. Authorities suspect that the Bexar County killings, where the violence began, may be connected to Tuesday’s events. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office was contacted after a link was found between James and a home in East Bexar County.

The motive for the attacks and whether they were random or targeted remain under investigation. Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to shed light on the tragic events that unfolded in Texas on Tuesday.
