Shane James Jr., the man accused of killing six people across two cities, is currently being held without bond. This is not James’ first encounter with the law, as he was previously arrested for a domestic violence charge in 2022.
The series of attacks that James is accused of began in Bexar County, where he allegedly killed his parents before heading north to Austin and shooting several others, including two law enforcement officers. James is now behind bars in Austin, facing murder charges.

James had a listed home address in the Port Royal area, where his parents were found dead. He also had a listed address in Mansfield, according to public data. CBS News reported that James served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army from 2013 to 2015.
In January 2022, James was arrested for allegedly assaulting his parents and a sibling. He was initially facing a misdemeanor charge, but the conditions of his bond were later altered to a no-contact order. Despite concerns raised by an advocate for the family regarding James’ mental health issues, he was released on bail in March 2022.
The very next day, James violated the conditions of his release by cutting off his ankle monitor. At the time, this was not considered a crime, but a new law has since made it a felony offense. A warrant was reissued for James’ arrest in March 2022, but it took 15 months for deputies to catch up with him.
The father of Shane James Jr. had contacted authorities in August, reporting that his son was experiencing a mental health episode. Deputies attempted to arrest James but were limited in their ability to force entry due to the misdemeanor warrant. The deputies retreated and asked the father to call them once James left the room, but the call was never made.

Deputies returned to James’ residence on Tuesday and discovered his parents dead. Authorities are still processing warrants for James’ alleged crimes in Bexar County, and he may face charges of murder or capital murder depending on the evidence gathered.
