Santa Clara City to Host Free Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Event for Residents, Including Tech Worker Homicide Victim

Santa Clara residents are being offered the opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste at a free drop-off event on January 27. The City of Santa Clara has organized this event to help residents properly dispose of items that are harmful to the environment and should not be thrown in regular trash bins.

In order to attend the event, residents must first register by calling the County Household Hazardous Waste Program at (408) 299-7300 or by visiting the website hhw.org. This step is necessary to ensure that the event runs smoothly and efficiently.

The list of items that can be disposed of at the event is quite extensive. It includes fluorescent light tubes, compact fluorescent lightbulbs, paint, automotive fluids, cleaners, solvents, batteries, propane and helium tanks, fertilizers, pesticides, wood preservatives, sharps containers, prescription medications, electronic waste, and other types of household hazardous wastes. This provides residents with a great opportunity to get rid of these potentially harmful items in a responsible way.

However, there are certain items that will not be accepted at the event. These include Styrofoam, large household appliances, ammunition, explosives, or containers larger than five gallons. For disposal of ammunition or explosives, residents are advised to contact the Santa Clara Police Department at (408) 615-4700.
