LEE Co., Ill. (KWQC) – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Monday night, resulting in the death of a 40-year-old Rock Falls man. Patrick J. Yocum was walking near Sterling and Walton roads, approximately 6 miles west of Amboy, when an unidentified vehicle struck him, leaving him in the middle of the road. Yocum was discovered by a passerby and taken to KSB Hospital in Dixon by the Amboy Fire Department, where he was later pronounced dead.
On Tuesday, an individual contacted the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, reporting their involvement in a crash near the location of Yocum’s incident. Deputies located the offending vehicle, a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, and impounded it. The driver was subsequently questioned by detectives. The sheriff’s office is currently conducting further investigation into the incident and has refrained from disclosing the driver’s name at this time. Meanwhile, an autopsy was performed on Yocum on Wednesday, but the results are pending toxicology reports.
