The Jacksonville Police Department has asked Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred overnight Sunday at a restaurant and left Vashun Mayo, 31, wounded and hospitalized. Initial reports indicated the gunshot wound to Mayo was not life-threatening.

JPD officers responded at approximately 11:42 p.m. to an armed robbery report at the Waffle House on 116 Marshall Road in Jacksonville. When officers arrived, the armed suspect fled into a wooded area, reportedly firing on officers. During the incident, JPD officers discharged their service firearms.

Mayo was taken into custody and transported to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock for treatment. No officers or restaurant patrons were injured in the incident.

An investigative case file will be presented to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by officers was consistent with Arkansas law.

Officer-involved shooting in Washington County

A 57-year-old Rogers man died as a result of injuries he sustained in an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 10:36 p.m. Sunday.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has requested ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division to investigate this incident.

The incident occurred after a deputy attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Scottie Stacy on Beav-O-Rama Road in rural northeast Washington County. During the encounter, a deputy fired his service weapon, striking Stacy, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

The deceased was transported to the Arkansas Crime Laboratory, where manner and cause of death will be determined. The investigation is ongoing.

An investigative case file will be presented to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by officers was consistent with Arkansas law.

Double homicide in Wilmar being investigated

The Drew County Sheriff’s Office has asked ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division to investigate a double homicide that occurred in Wilmar in the early morning hours Sunday.

The sheriff’s office responded to a 911 call at approximately 2:30 a.m., arriving at the old Wilmar School on North 5th Street to find two deceased men.

Suquorey Pitts Jr., 25, of Dumas was found in the front passenger seat of a vehicle parked in the driveway of the school. Independence Young, 21, of McGehee was found lying on North 5th Street.

Both men had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased was to be transported to the Arkansas Crime Lab, where manner and cause of death will be determined.

Shooting in Charleston being investigated

A 43-year-old man has died as a result of a gunshot injury he sustained after an altercation took place inside a home in the 100 block of Church Street in Charleston.

At approximately 1:51 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office requested ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the incident.

The sheriff’s office responded to a call to the home, locating victim Daniel Davis within the residence. Davis was pronounced deceased on-scene. The deceased was to be transported to the state Crime Lab, where manner and cause of death will be determined.

Donny Wayne Deer, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder.

Jacksonville Police Department Requests State Police Investigation into Officer-Involved Shooting
