Man Identified as Shane James Arrested in Texas Shooting Spree

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — The man suspected of killing six people and injuring several others in Texas has been identified by police. Shane James, 34, was booked into Travis County Jail on charges including capital murder of multiple persons. He is being held without bond.

The violent incidents occurred on Tuesday in Austin and Bexar County. The relationship between the victims and the suspect remains unknown, according to Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson.

The first attack took place outside Northeast Early College High School, where James is believed to have shot an Austin Independent School District police officer. The officer was shot in the leg but is expected to recover fully.

Shortly after, a man and a woman were found dead in the 7300 block of Shadywood Drive. Their identities have not been released.

Another shooting occurred on West Slaughter Lane, where a cyclist was shot. The severity of the cyclist’s injuries is unknown, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

In the 5300 block of Austral Loop, a burglary was reported. When an officer responded, James opened fire, striking the officer multiple times. The officer returned fire, but James managed to flee the scene in a vehicle.

Authorities pursued James and apprehended him after he crashed at the intersection of South Highway 45 and FM 1826. Inside the home on Austral Loop, two more individuals were found dead.

The officer shot by James was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Following the shootings, police discovered a connection between James and a home in East Bexar County. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office found two people dead in the home, but their cause of death is currently unknown.

Authorities believe the killings in Bexar County initiated the violent spree, but the motive behind the attacks and whether they were random is still unclear.

The investigation into these tragic events is ongoing.
