Beaumont Police have charged a man in connection with the murder of a man found wrapped in a sleeping bag and a tarp and covered with several tires in a wooded area. Isaac Platt, 34, of Beaumont, has been charged with the murder of Johnny Tomlinson, 65, who police described as transient. Platt was already in custody on an unrelated charge and is now being held on the murder charge. Police obtained a first-degree murder warrant for Platt on December 6, 2023, and subsequently booked him on the charge. His bond has been set at $950,000.
The body of Tomlinson was discovered when police were sent to the area of Avenue C and Crockett St. Police say that while being interviewed by investigators, Platt admitted to killing Tomlinson and provided details about the murder. Tomlinson’s death was later ruled a homicide after it was determined that he had been strangled.
