A man has been arrested on capital murder charges following a shooting spree in Austin and Bexar County that left six people dead and several injured. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Shane James, was apprehended and booked into Travis County jail. He is accused of killing two people in south Austin and shooting an Austin Independent School District officer at Northeast Early College High School. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed that James is a suspect in a double homicide near San Antonio, where his parents were killed.
Local and state officials have responded to the incident, expressing their condolences and vowing to bring the perpetrator to justice. The Travis County District Attorney’s Office thanked law enforcement agencies for their quick work in apprehending the suspect and stated that James has been charged with multiple counts of capital murder. The Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) expressed their prayers and support for the injured AISD Police Officer, who is reported to be in stable condition.
