A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly biting a police officer and attempting to take another officer’s gun during an incident in Kent on Thanksgiving morning. Kobie Angelo Jones, 24, appeared in court on Monday and was charged with aggravated robbery, escape, assault on a peace officer, and resisting arrest. He was ordered to be held on a $750,000 bond.

The details surrounding Jones’ place of residence remain unclear. While court records and police reports list a Kent address, identification found in Jones’ wallet suggests he lives in Norton. Additional court records in Summit County indicate a Barberton address.

According to the police report, the incident began when an officer pulled over a pickup truck without a rear license plate on Franklin Avenue. The driver cooperated with the police, but Jones provided false information and attempted to evade arrest due to his belief that he had outstanding warrants.

When the officers attempted to detain Jones, he resisted and ran away. Despite warnings and the use of an electric shock device, Jones continued to fight. He allegedly bit one officer’s hands and wrists while attempting to grab their gear. Eventually, additional officers arrived, and Jones was apprehended.

During the struggle, the officer sustained bite injuries and sought medical treatment. Jones was also taken to the hospital before being transported to Portage County Jail.

Kent Police Lt. Mike Lewis confirmed that Jones has unrelated pending charges in Summit County but no outstanding warrants. Jones is scheduled for a jury trial on January 23, with pretrial and discovery hearings scheduled for January 3 and December 20, respectively.
