Jason Ogbomoh, Marietta School Teacher, Fatally Shot in Downtown Atlanta: Suspect Arrested

An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of Marietta school teacher Jason Ogbomoh in Downtown Atlanta. Leroy Hinton, 30, was taken into custody by the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and members of the Atlanta Police Department’s Fugitive Unit. Hinton has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

According to Atlanta Police, officers responded to a report of a person shot on Nov. 12 at 81 Peachtree St. at around 3 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to Grady Hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The victim, identified as Ogbomoh, was a computer science teacher at Marietta Middle School. Early investigations suggest that the shooting occurred following some sort of dispute.

In a letter sent to parents, Marietta Middle Principal Diona Brown expressed her condolences and praised Ogbomoh’s dedication to teaching. She described him as a passionate teacher whose commitment to students was unwavering. Despite being just 25 years old, Ogbomoh had already made a significant impact on the community.

Ogbomoh was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was pursuing a master’s degree in computer science from Georgia State University, according to WSB-TV.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, as friends, colleagues, and students mourn the loss of a beloved teacher. The arrest of Hinton provides some relief to those affected by the tragedy, but the investigation is still ongoing.
