Elderly Woman Dies in Massachusetts After Car Rolls Over Her: Victim Identified as Roselyn Gray

First responders were called to the scene in Massachusetts on November 29th following reports of a person trapped under a motor vehicle. The incident occurred on Fieldcrest Terrace at approximately 7:45 p.m. local time. The North Reading Police Department received the distress call and immediately dispatched help.

Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered an elderly woman stuck underneath a car in her driveway. Shockingly, there was no one inside the vehicle at the time. The woman, later identified as 80-year-old Roselyn Gray, was quickly transported to a local hospital. Tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

Authorities believe that the incident occurred when Gray’s Buick Regal rolled backwards and struck her. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Sections are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the rollaway.

Gray, a former Cambridge school teacher, was well-loved in her community. She was also a member of the North Reading Moose Lodge. Friends and loved ones described her as a witty and kind-hearted person.

Rollaway accidents, where cars move unintentionally without a driver, are unfortunately not uncommon in the United States. Between 2016 and 2020, more than 700 people were killed and over 9,500 were injured in such incidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been collecting these statistics. On average, 144 people lost their lives each year during this period, while nearly 2,000 sustained injuries.

Gray’s funeral was held on Friday, providing an opportunity for friends and family to say their final goodbyes. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are determined to discover what led to the tragic accident.
