Bond has been set at £950,000 for a man who has been charged in connection with the death of a homeless person whose decomposed body was discovered at the end of last month. Isaac Daniel Platt, 34, of Beaumont, has been charged with first-degree murder and was already in custody on unrelated charges when the warrant was obtained. The case has been forwarded to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office after Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. signed the arrest warrant. The body was found on 29th October in the area of Crockett Street/Avenue C, which is known to be a camp for homeless people. The victim was identified as Johnny Tomlinson, a 65-year-old transient from Beaumont. The cause of death was determined to be strangulation. According to a witness statement provided to the authorities, an argument occurred between Platt and Tomlinson where Platt accused Tomlinson of stealing his drugs. The witness left the scene and upon returning later that night, noticed Tomlinson was missing but his bicycle was still there. The witness and Platt then had an argument about the witness’s dog allegedly eating Platt’s food. During the argument, Platt reportedly made a threatening statement, pointing towards the area where the body was later discovered. Platt was re-interviewed by detectives and provided information about the crime, leading them to the murder weapon and other important evidence at the scene. The case is now in the hands of the legal system and Platt will face trial for the charges against him.
