66-Year-Old South Sioux City Resident Killed in Series of Crashes on Interstate 129

Dakota City, Neb. – Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning when a series of accidents occurred on I-129 in northeast Nebraska, resulting in the loss of one life. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the incident that took place around 5 a.m.

The initial crash involved a stolen 2008 Toyota Camry, which was reported missing from South Sioux City, Nebraska. Traveling eastbound on I-129, the Camry collided with the center median barricade.

Following the collision, two kind-hearted passersby stopped to assist the Camry’s driver. Unfortunately, as they were rendering aid, a second vehicle traveling in the same direction crashed into the already damaged Camry, as well as the two good Samaritans. Subsequently, the second vehicle collided with a third car parked on the shoulder of the interstate.

Regrettably, one of the good Samaritans, a 66-year-old South Sioux City resident, lost their life in the incident, while the other sustained injuries. Both the surviving Samaritan and the driver of the second vehicle were promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

Shockingly, the driver of the stolen Camry fled the scene, leaving authorities in search of the individual. At present, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office lacks a physical description of the driver, only knowing that the person is male. Anyone possessing information about the driver’s whereabouts is urged to contact the sheriff’s office immediately.

Additionally, a separate collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-129 shortly after the aforementioned accidents. However, this incident did not result in any serious injuries, providing a small consolation amidst the tragic events.

The community mourns the loss of the heroic Samaritan who selflessly came to the aid of a stranger. As investigations into the crashes continue, authorities are determined to bring the responsible party to justice.
