34-Year-Old Kerry Jones-Hilburg Identified as Victim in Fatal Shooting at North Spokane Walmart

The Spokane County Medical Examiner has identified the victim of a fatal shooting at a North Spokane Walmart as 34-year-old Kerry Jones-Hilburg. According to reports, the incident occurred over the weekend, resulting in Jones-Hilburg’s death and injuring two Spokane police officers.

Details about the incident are limited due to the ongoing investigation by the Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team. At this time, the Spokane police have not provided any information regarding the shooting. However, it has been confirmed that one officer had requested backup for shoplifter prevention.

The situation escalated when another officer arrived to confront the suspect, later identified as Jones-Hilburg. A prolonged physical confrontation ensued, during which someone reportedly yelled “Gun.” Subsequently, at least one officer fired their weapon, fatally injuring Jones-Hilburg.

Upon further investigation, a gun and ammunition were found on Jones-Hilburg, along with discharged tasers in the area. The officers involved in the incident sustained injuries during the fight but were not shot. One officer was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the condition of the other officer remains unknown. Fortunately, no other individuals in the store were harmed.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner determined that Jones-Hilburg’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso, and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.

The Spokane Police Department regularly conducts shoplifting prevention operations, in which on-duty officers are assigned to stores to deter theft.
