Two Bangladeshi Nationals Killed and Another Injured in Alleged Indian BSF Firing: Mokles and Zahirul Islam Identified as Deceased

Two Bangladeshi nationals were reportedly killed and another injured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Thakurgaon border on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Mokles, 28, and Zahirul Islam, 25, both residents of Haripur upazila in the district.

The incident was confirmed by Haripur police station Officer-in-Charge ABM Firoz Wahid and Kathaldangi BOP Company Commander Entazul Haque. According to OC Firoz, Mokles’ body was found floating in the Shirani River and was sent for autopsy. On the other hand, Entazul Haque stated that Zahirul was shot near the border and was taken to an Indian hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His body is still in India.

Additionally, a 30-year-old man named Iddis was allegedly shot and injured by BSF firing. However, Ratnai Camp Commander Hannan expressed uncertainty about the incident, stating that they were unable to verify it after inquiring with the family and BSF camp.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Thakurgaon Sector Commander Colonel MH Hafizur Rahman confirmed that two Bangladeshis were killed in BSF firing along the border. He mentioned that a flag meeting was held with the BSF, and after completing the necessary procedures, the BSF will return the body of the deceased individual to India soon.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of Bangladeshi citizens living near the border. The BGB and BSF have previously held meetings to discuss border-related issues. Efforts to maintain a peaceful and cooperative relationship between the two countries have been ongoing.

The government of Bangladesh is expected to take up the matter with Indian authorities to ensure justice for the victims and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and coordination between border security forces to avoid any harm to innocent civilians.
