Tragic Death of 3-Year-Old Merrillville Boy King Penro in Accidental Shooting Highlights Urgency for Gun Safety

A tragic incident occurred in Merrillville, as a 3-year-old boy lost his life due to an accidental gunshot wound. The local police were alerted to the situation at approximately 5:45 p.m. on December 4th. The victim, identified as King Penro, was attended to by medics at the scene but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital.

According to Merrillville Cmdr. Matt Vasel, law enforcement officers retrieved a handgun from which a single bullet had been fired. While the investigation is ongoing, initial findings suggest that the shooting was accidental. However, it remains unclear whether the young boy or someone else discharged the weapon. The authorities have stated that the family members are fully cooperating in the investigation.

In response to this tragic event, the police department emphasized the importance of gun safety. They urged the community to take this matter seriously and offered gun locks to those in need. This initiative reflects their commitment to preventing such incidents from occurring in the future.
