Naperville Woman Charged in Fatal Shooting of Man at Oakbrook Terrace Hotel

A woman from Naperville has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man at a hotel in Oakbrook Terrace. Latrice Phillips, aged 51, appeared in court where her pretrial release was denied. She has been charged with first-degree murder.

The incident occurred on Saturday night at the Hilton Suites on Drury Lane. Oakbrook Terrace police responded to reports of shots fired and discovered the victim, Calvin Truitt, who had been shot twice in the back/side area. Truitt was taken to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

According to investigators, an argument took place earlier in the evening at the hotel pool involving Phillips and a group of people she knew, including Truitt. Following the altercation, Phillips allegedly followed the group onto an elevator. When the elevator reached the seventh floor and the doors opened, a fight broke out. It was during this altercation that Phillips allegedly produced a handgun and fired three shots, hitting Truitt. After the shooting, Phillips returned to her hotel room.

Phillips was arrested shortly afterward in her hotel room. Authorities discovered a Taurus 9 mm handgun in a holster from her waistband during the search. Both DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and Oakbrook Terrace Police Chief Casey Calvello expressed shock at the allegations. Berlin stated that gun violence is not tolerated in DuPage County and promised that the case would be met with the full force of the law.

Calvello commended the quick response of law enforcement officers to the active shooter situation, highlighting their heroism in administering first aid to the victim and ensuring the safety of others. Phillips is scheduled to appear in court on January 4, 2024, for her arraignment.

The incident has shocked the local community, especially as it occurred during the busy holiday season. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
