Six labourers were found dead in a godown in Vijayapura, Karnataka, on Tuesday, with rescue efforts ongoing to recover any others who may be trapped. The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Mukhiya, Ramrij Mukhiya, Sambu Mukhiya, Ram Balak, and Lukho Jadhav. The name of the sixth worker has not yet been determined.
Karnataka Minister MB Patil, who is responsible for the Vijayapura district, received information about the incident from the District Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and other senior officials. Patil, who is overseeing the rescue operation, expressed his condolences and said, “This is a very terrible tragedy. This mishap occurred when people from other states came here to work. Currently, our first priority is rescuing the workers and bringing them home.”

Regarding the investigation into the incident, the state Industries Minister stated that it will be conducted later, and he will discuss the matter with the Chief Minister to ensure compensation for the injured and deceased workers. Patil also mentioned that eight workers may have died, but further details will be available once the operation is complete.
The Minister emphasized the responsibility of the owners to provide compensation and mentioned a previous incident where compensation was not given to the families of deceased workers. He assured that appropriate action will be taken if any wrongdoing is found. The government, along with the owner of the processing plant, will compensate the families of the injured and deceased workers, and the injured will receive necessary treatment.
The Minister further stated that the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families through the district administration. He also appealed to the locals to cooperate with the ongoing rescue operation.
