30-Year-Old Rohingya Man, Imam Hossain, Shot Dead at Ukhiya Rohingya Camp in Cox’s Bazar

A 30-year-old Rohingya man was fatally shot by unidentified assailants at the Ukhiya Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Imam Hossain, resided in camp number 4.

According to Officer-in-Charge Shamim Hossain of the Ukhiya police station, a group of miscreants entered the camp and opened fire on Imam, killing him instantly. The police were immediately informed of the incident and rushed to the scene. The body was later sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.

OC Shamim Hossain stated, “Police patrolling has been intensified in the area following the incident. We are taking legal action and a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the motive behind the murder.” He also mentioned that the killing may have been a result of a dispute over power dynamics within the camp.

The Ukhiya Rohingya camp is home to thousands of Rohingya refugees who fled violence and persecution in Myanmar. It is one of the largest refugee camps in the world, housing a vulnerable population that has faced numerous challenges, including limited access to basic necessities and inadequate healthcare.

This tragic incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of the Rohingya community in the camps. Humanitarian organizations and authorities are being urged to take immediate steps to ensure the protection of the refugees and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
