Family of the man who died in the Macy’s stabbing in Philadelphia have identified him as 27-year-old Eric Harrison. They revealed that he was working two jobs, including one at the department store, in order to save up for a house.

“I feel like I’m in a dream,” said Tyree Harrison-Harvey, the aunt of the victim. “I’m waiting for somebody to just tap me and say, ‘OK, it’s over. It was a joke.'”

Harrison-Harvey expressed that this nightmare is something she wouldn’t wish upon anyone’s family. Her nephew, Harrison, was stabbed to death while simply doing his job.

“He wasn’t out on the street. He wasn’t on the corner,” Harrison-Harvey said. “He wasn’t battling anyone, he was at work.”

The Macy’s store on Market Street in Center City, where the stabbing occurred, remains closed. People who were strangers to Harrison have come to the department store to place flowers at the locked entrance and silently pray.

“The people at Macy’s, he would call them ‘auntie.’ He would always have a joke,” Harrison-Harvey said. “Always welcome people in. Always wanting to help someone.”

Harrison-Harvey revealed that her nephew was working two jobs to save up money to move out of her house in Lawncrest. He worked at the post office overnight and four days a week he worked as a security guard at the department store in Center City. He had become a staple there over the past two years.

“He was everything to us,” Harrison-Harvey said. “We’re a very, very close-knit family.”

The suspect, identified as Tyrone Tunnell, has left Harrison-Harvey at a loss in trying to understand why he would commit such a crime.

“We let you go. Gave you a pass. And you came back? And then come to find out I heard that my nephew wasn’t even the one who stopped him,” Harrison-Harvey said. “It was someone else and then you stabbed my nephew.”

Harrison-Harvey emphasized that these thieves need to think about the lives they are impacting through their actions.

“You’re robbing people’s lives,” she added. “You’re robbing the family.”

As the family tries to navigate this nightmare, they are asking the community to keep them in prayer. Macy’s has released a statement about the store remaining closed to the public as their colleagues begin the healing process. They have also made counselors available through their Employee Assistance Program.
