A 15-year-old boy, Adrian J. Dukes, has been charged with two felony counts in Henry Circuit Court in connection with the shooting death of a New Castle man that occurred last May. Dukes faces charges of aiding, inducing, or causing murder, as well as unlawful transfer of a handgun. He was charged on November 14 as a co-defendant in the case after being charged as an adult.
Dukes is accused of supplying the handgun that was used in the murder. According to court documents, he admitted to providing the firearm to another 14-year-old suspect, Quinton Marqtez Vann. The handgun allegedly belonged to Dukes’ stepfather. The same weapon was later found in a storage shed near a residence in New Castle.

Vann, who was also charged as an adult in August, allegedly played a role in the killing of 47-year-old Ernest Thornsberry Jr. Vann was 13 years old at the time of the shooting. According to witnesses, Vann and a group of other juveniles approached Thornsberry, yelled insults, and threw rocks at him. Thornsberry produced a pocket knife in response, but Vann then displayed a 9mm handgun and fired multiple shots, fatally injuring Thornsberry.
The shooting took place on May 2 near South 21 Street and A Avenue. Initially, police responded to the area believing the victim had been injured in a hit-and-run incident. However, it was later revealed to be a homicide.
Both Dukes and Vann are scheduled for trial on March 11 in Henry Circuit Court 1. Vann is currently being held at a juvenile facility in Vincennes.
It is worth noting that FOX59/CBS4 typically does not name juvenile suspects unless they are charged as adults. The court determined that it would not be in the best interest of Dukes and the community for him to remain within the juvenile justice system.
