Pune Crime Branch Arrests Three Trailer-Truck Drivers for Murder

The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch, with the help of CCTV footage, has successfully apprehended three trailer-truck drivers from Raigad and Palghar who were accused of killing a man. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Amol Pawar from Latur district, was found dead with severe injuries on an open plot in Mahalunge, MIDC, on November 29.

According to the police investigation, the three drivers and their accomplices beat Pawar with an iron rod after he attempted to steal one of their trucks at KSB Chowk in Chinchwad. Following the assault, the men took the victim to an open plot 20km away from the scene and disposed of his body.

The arrested drivers have been identified as Dashrath Adsul, 21, from Kalamboli in Raigad district, Vishnu Raut, 29, and Baliram Jamdade, 35, from Boisar in Palghar district. All three have confessed to killing Pawar, stating that he had tried to steal Adsul’s truck.

Prior to the incident, Pawar had been detained by the Nigdi police the night before his death for throwing stones while intoxicated. He was released with a warning and dropped off at Transportnagar in Nigdi by a police officer.

CCTV footage revealed Pawar walking towards KSB Chowk at around 1.30 am, climbing into the driver’s cabin of a parked trailer truck, and driving away. Adsul, the truck’s driver, noticed Pawar as he crossed the same spot and managed to stop the truck with the help of Raut and Jamdade. The assault then took place in the driver’s cabin.

This incident sheds light on the increasing number of assaults on drivers and conductors in Maharashtra. The shortage of experienced drivers for commercial transport vehicles, including buses and trucks, is a matter of concern for transporters. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety on the road.
