Tragic Accident in Melbourne: 3-Year-Old Child Fatally Struck by Car While Fleeing from Parent

A tragic incident occurred in Melbourne, England on Sunday night, resulting in the death of a 3-year-old child. According to the local police, the child was struck by a car while attempting to run away from a parent. The child’s mother also sustained injuries while trying to prevent the child from running.

The incident took place at the intersection of Dairy Road and Hall Street at around 8:30 p.m., as reported by the Melbourne Police Department. Responding officers found both the child and the parent with serious bodily injuries at the scene of the crash.

Authorities revealed that the accident happened when the child and two adults were exiting a car parked on the southbound side of Dairy Road. The car was towing a trailer. The child suddenly ran behind the trailer and into the northbound lanes of Dairy Road, leading to the collision.

The driver of the car involved in the accident was identified as 56-year-old Stephanos Maminakis, while the parent trying to stop the child was 31-year-old Cassandry Lyn Becher. The extent of Becher’s injuries remains unknown, but unfortunately, the child was pronounced dead. Due to the child’s young age, their identity has not been released by the police.

Authorities have determined that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The incident is now being investigated as a traffic homicide. The Melbourne Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Chris Livingston at 321-288-8288.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of child safety and vigilance while near busy roads.
