Six people killed in vehicle accident near Sunni in Shimla district

Six people have died and six others have been injured in a tragic accident in Shimla district. The incident occurred on Monday morning when a pickup truck carrying 12 individuals lost control and plunged into a gorge near Sunni, approximately 35 km from Shimla. The driver of the vehicle was unable to maintain control, resulting in the devastating crash.

Of the twelve occupants, nine were migrant labourers from Kolgam in Jammu and Kashmir who were working in Himachal Pradesh. They were travelling from Sunni to Mandi when the accident occurred. Three of the labourers died immediately at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries upon reaching the hospital. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Farid, Gulab, Sahbir, Talib, Gulzar, and Mustak, while the injured include Ranjit, who was driving the vehicle, as well as Aslam, Talib Hussain, Akash Kumar, Ajay Thakur, and Manjoor. The police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the cause of the accident.

Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the district authorities to provide immediate assistance to the families of the deceased and ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care.

In a separate incident in Shimla city, a truck collided with four vehicles in the Vikasnagar area. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this accident. However, according to police data, there have been a total of 260 accidents in Shimla district from January 1 to November 23, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 110 individuals and injuring 401 others.

These tragic incidents highlight the importance of road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life. The authorities must take immediate action to improve road conditions and promote safe driving practices to ensure the safety of all road users.
