LAKE ST LOUIS, Mo. — A man was shot and killed by Lake St. Louis police after a shots fired investigation resulted in a struggle over handguns, police said.
A press release from Lake St. Louis Police Chief Christopher DiGiuseppi said the deadly shooting happened Monday but did not say when. The man who was killed in the incident was also not identified.
DiGiuseppi said the incident started when the department received a call about someone shooting a gun in Boulevard Park. When officers arrived, they found several shell casings and started an investigation.

During the investigation, officers went to the 2400 block of Fox Bridge Court to try to talk to the man suspected of firing shots in the park. DiGiuseppi said the suspect came out of the house with two guns.
Officers tried to get the guns from the man, but the man fought back.
DiGiuseppi said the man was trying to fire the gun, so the officer shot him. The man then fired multiple shots.
The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment and then transferred to another hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An officer was treated for a minor hand injury and was released from the hospital.
The case is still being investigated. No other information has been provided.
