Authorities were initially called to respond to a report of a suspicious individual on South White Station Road. Upon arrival, they encountered an older model Buick with expired license plates. The driver, identified as Bradley, was found to have an outstanding felony warrant from Mississippi.

Bradley was subsequently taken into custody. However, while in custody, he made a request to smoke a Black & Mild, a type of cigar, in order to calm his nerves. Astonishingly, the officers granted his request and allowed him to step out of the squad car.

Seizing the opportunity, Bradley took off running and managed to escape from the officers’ grasp. Later on, he was located on Woodlark Avenue and was then taken to St. Francis Hospital for medical clearance.

The incident has raised questions about the protocols and judgment exercised by the police officers involved. Granting a detained individual’s request for a smoke break, particularly in an open area, seems to have provided Bradley with an opportunity to flee from custody.
