Darjeeling: A man has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his wife after suspecting her of infidelity in West Bengal’s Darjeeling. The incident occurred in the Putimari area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bagdogra police station near Siliguri. The accused, identified as Mahadeb Biswas, aged 28, has been taken into custody.
According to the police, Mahadeb had suspicions about his wife, Rina Biswas, having an illicit relationship, which led to frequent arguments between the couple. On November 13, Mahadeb is said to have strangled his wife before disposing of her body in a nearby tea garden. To divert attention, he later filed a missing person report at the Bagdogra Police Station. However, Rina’s parents filed a complaint against Mahadeb, accusing him of murdering their daughter.

After receiving the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and detained Mahadeb for questioning. During the interrogation, the accused admitted to the crime. Acting on the information provided by Mahadeb, the Bagdogra police station discovered a skeleton in the Trihana tea garden forest area on Sunday.
The authorities found jewelry on the skeleton that was identified as belonging to Rina. The police have sent the remains for forensic analysis and post-mortem examination at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Siliguri Police Commissionerate ADCP Subhendra Kumar stated, “The husband has been arrested following the recovery of the skeleton. He will appear in court on Monday, and the investigation is ongoing.”
